Our Exhibitions

It is an honor for us to host a third exhibition. Our two previous exhibitions already highlighted the individuality and uniqueness of artworks in general. We presented the works of two German artists, Constanze Deutsch and Susanne Töpfer, who express their authenticity in modern, contrasting, and colorful works. In this third exhibition “Old Chinese Masters”, we dedicate ourselves to the works of famous Chinese painters from several dynasties of the past 5000 years. The aim is not only to show Chinese art styles from past centuries and highlight individual forms of representation but also to enrich our visitors with non-traditional knowledge.

Constanze Deutsch: Drawings

The large-format colored drawings by Constanze Deutsch not only provide an original picture of today’s situation of communicative overload and over-complexity, but also convey a very unique figure image: the skin of Constanze Deutsch’s protagonists looks like the thin membrane of a soap bubble – which is on top and underneath also the subject of the picture. Based on her models, the illustrator constructs her figures with sharp contours as if following an artist’s anatomy textbook. But bone structures and muscles sometimes merge seamlessly into technical, mechanical or plant-like constructions, which are revealed by the translucent bodies or supplemented or hidden by ornaments, clothing and body decoration.

Susanne Töpfer: Pictures and sculpture

Away from perfection and smoothness, Susanne Töpfer looks for those moments in her high-contrast works where the surface breaks open. She provides a glimpse into her world, draws the viewer in and allows him to feel himself. Their striving for authenticity contrasts with social developments. The encounters with her works are unfiltered, unadorned and often painful. But she also makes a powerful plea for the life and beauty of the naive, far from stereotypes and uniformity.

In contrast to the “Occident”, whose art history has repeatedly experienced major changes in the form of style changes, Chinese art has been characterized by an astonishing continuity over the centuries.
Art styles mostly developed based on those from previous eras.
According to the Confucian worldview, masters were role models to be revered. And the “respect for tradition” that has always been widespread made the imitation of “old artists” as close to the original as possible, but not the creation of something new, the primary goal of art.
Our exhibition is intended to show you how much the individual painting styles of the eras overlap with each other.
